An amazing 70 percent of kids drop out of youth sports by age 13, but we as coaches, parents and fans can do something to turn this around.
Losing kids from sports is a shame when you consider the benefits of sports including: healthier lifestyle/lower obesity, self-confidence, responsibility, academic focus, social interaction and life lessons.
So, how do you keep kids involved in sports, especially when you are competing against screen time, increasing academic rigor and teenage angst? In a nutshell – make it fun for them. Fun means different things to different kids, but these are some of the things that our coaches have used to keep players engaged:
