The following Day, May 17, 2014, East High Rugby played Snow Canyon High School in the High School State Championship.  Snow Canyon also entered the match with a National Ranking in High School Rugby.  The day before Snow Canyon had beaten a strong Olympus side 38 to 15 to advance to the Championship.  Snow Canyon kicked to East to start the match.  Snow Canyon led the charge for most of the first half.  The Leopards scored one time in the half.  It was off a Sione Mafua run at the tryline dragging 3 tacklers in with him.  The Sione Mafi conversion was good.  East trailed at the Half 7 to 26.

The second half was a completely different story.  The Leopards came to play.  2 minutes in Jesse Afuvai picked the ball from the ruck and crossed the try line.  Momentum was beginning to build for the East High Team.  Minutes later Tua Laupata added another score for the East.  The Snow Canyon lead was cut to 26 to 17.  East continued to battle.  Snow Canyon's next score came off of a penalty extending the lead 29 to 17.  East continued to battle and they scored again.  Joe Tukuafu took the ball from the back line and powered in for the score.  With a failed conversion attempt the score was now 29 to 22 with about 10 minutes left.  It was a battle and East continued a strong attack.  Snow Canyon was able to score one more time in the game extending the lead 34 to 22. At the 2 minute mark.  The leopards didn’t quite.  As time expired Sione Mafi took the ball off of the scrum and scored from 5 meters out.  With the Mafi conversion the final score was 34 to 29.  It was a well fought match by both sides.

We are proud of the East High Rugby Team for the way they played and battled all year.  We are proud of their commitment to the team and to each other. We made an improbable run in the playoffs against strong opponents. We believed in ourselves and in our abilities. We came together as a TEAM. These fine young men have helped to set the stage for the future success of East High Rugby. As a coaching staff we wish the seniors who will be leaving us the greatest of success. We are excited for the players who get to return to us to continue building the program. We are excited to meet a few new faces along the way.

Thank you for supporting the East High Rugby team this season. It was a tremendous ride and one that we all should be proud of.
