Almost a month ago when Highland and East Last played, the end result was a 24 to 24 Tie.  It would be a Wasatch Conference rematch for a shot to go to the final four of the High School Rugby State Championship.  The lineup for East changed a little because of injuries from the first game.  Highland took an early 12 to 0 lead scoring 2 times in a row.  East was able to answer back.  The first score came as wing Preston Burnett stole the ball from a Highland player and took it 40 meters for the score.  The conversion was missed.  Moments later, East had marched down the field maintaining great possession and Tua Laupata took the ball in for the score off of a side step from 15 meters out.  The Osaiasi Tuifua Conversion was good to tie the game.  To close out the half East received a kick from Highland and Tua advanced the ball and made a great pass out of the tackle to Ula Tolutau who continued the charge.  As he was being tackled he passed to Tennessee Suesue at pace.  Suesue took the ball in for the score from 15 meters out.  With another successful Tuifua Conversion, the Leopard took the lead at the half, East 19 Highland 12.

The rest of the second half would prove to be a dog fight.  It was a well fought match from both teams.  Highland would score again making the score East 19 Highland 17.  The momentum was back and forth and east was able to secure victory when Jesse Afuvai powered in for the score from 1 meter out off of lose play.

It was an amazing weekend of rugby for the East High Rugby Team who has earned a spot in the Final 4.

The remaining schedule is as follows.  The remaining playoffs games will be hosed at the University of Utah on the Soccer Field east of the HYPER buildings and Huntsman Center.  East will face Herriman on Friday May 16, 2014 at 12:00pm.  If the Leopards advance they will play in the State Championship game on Saturday at 4:00 at the same field.  They will play the winner of Olympus and Snow Canyon.

You won’t want to miss this game on Friday.  Grab a friend and come check out this game and cheer on the East High Rugby Team.
