East Rugby hosted their first home game this past Wednesday against Olympus High School at 1700 south park.  It was raining most of the day but the weather at kickoff was just about perfect.  East kicked off to Olympus to start the match.  Olympus had the ball deep in their own territory.  The Leopards struck first on a great defensive play by Malakai Solovi who intercepted an Olympus pass through the centers for the score.  Olympus would rebound quickly scoring three consecutive times.  East closed out the half with one more score from Ula Toluta’u.  Olympus had tipped the ball in the back line and Ula was there for the rebound and placed the ball under the posts.  Nate Asper was 2 for 2 for conversions in the first half.  At halftime the Leopards were down 14 to 24.

As the second half began, Olympus was the first to put points on the board extending their lead 31 to 14.  East continued to fight back and work their way back to the game.  Ula Toluta’u, no stranger to long runs on the field, scored the next two scores for East.  His first of the second half came from about 40 meters out breaking through multiple tackles.  His second came in the 70th minute of the match from about 60 meters out breaking multiple tackles.  Olympus would score 2 more times in the second half making the final East 24 Olympus 43.

We look forward to our next match up against West High School on April 5, 2014 at 1700 South park at 2:00 p.m.
