Boys and girls Elite teams will play in the nations premier sevens competition

The Utah Cannibals Elite boys and girls teams have arrived in Philadelphia to vie for the Penn Mutual High School Sevens Championship. The event is considered the premier rugby sevens competition in the United States and draws some of the most polished and experienced teams from around the nation.

In day one of the competition, the boys Cannibals team will contend for a right to the title against NJ Blaze, St. Augustine and West Chester Turks Head, the latter being a formidable local Pennsylvania team with a large and rabid rugby fan base. The Cannibals are led by a Senior class quartet who have been here before and are eager to end their Cannibals careers with CRC hardware. Herriman's Zak Barker is a large and volatile force to be reckoned with, while Beto Lui (West Valley) and Josh Howden (United) are no push-overs and will assist Barker from the front.

All American Bailey Wilson (United) has played a lot of rugby this season and looks to cap off another stellar season with CRC gold. He'll be joined by a young corps of skilled athletes eager to make their mark in Cannibals colors. William "Wei" Stanton is a well rounded athlete and his Genesis teammate Brooke Vaitohi knows his way around the pitch and is always around the ball.

The Cannibals girls squad is led by cousins and All-Americans Charity Tenney and Kathryn Stowers, two seniors who have enjoyed immense success throughout their high school careers. They're joined by veteran spitfire center Maili Schaap and two relatively newcomers to the big stage with tremendous potential, Nafi FitisemanuFalelua Stowers and Emily Trunnell. The girls are pooled together with local favorites Kiski Rugby (PA)and perenial powerhouse Doylestown. The girls go into the competition with a lot of expectations on their shoulders but this group has played well together and have the skill, knowledge and firepower to win it all.

Utah Youth Rugby wishes our teams the best this weekend. You can view the games via live stream on the UYR Website.
