On Saturday October 31, 2015, 10 High School Boys and 6 High School Girls 7s rugby teams met for the fourth and final time to compete in the final leg of the Utah Youth Rugby 2015 High School Fall 7s Series.

Herriman Gold (unbeaten in the series) were made to earn their 4th tournament win of the series and State Champion title by a determined Portneuf All Valley (Idaho) team and a formidable United Rugby Club team. Herriman secured their Tournament Cup Final place with a hard fought 29 – 14 win over Portneuf. Herriman met United for the third consecutive time in the Tournament Cup Final and for the third consecutive time Herriman found themselves trailing United with just minutes left in the match. Again Herriman disappointed United’s hopes of securing a tournament cup win by scoring late in the game and winning their 4th tournament win 24 -19. Herriman had secured the State Championship by beating Herriman Blue (36 – 0) in the cup quarter-finals. United were the Series runners-up despite a poor showing in leg 1 where United could only manage to win the Bowl (5th place). With solid performances in legs 2 – 4 and almost knocking over Herriman in each of those three cup finals, United secured their silver medal spots at the expense of a two very determined and competitive teams – Portneuf All Valley (Idaho) and Wasatch of Murray. Both Portneuf and Wasatch tied the series on 64 points. However, Portneuf won the series third place with a superior series aggregate point’s difference over Wasatch of Murray, 28 to 15 respectively.

Orem Lady Stallions (also unbeaten in the series) appeared under little threat throughout the tournament knocking over rivals United Girls (28 – 5) in the semifinal and Herriman Girls (38 – 5) in the tournament cup final. Orem was all but secured of their Series and State Championship title going into the 4th Leg of the series, but an unbeaten record was at stake. Both United and Herriman had tested Orem in previous legs, but Orem proved once again that they are the best Varsity Girls team in Utah. The battle for silver in the series was hard fought between Herriman and United, but Herriman prevailed when they beat United in pool play thus forcing United to face Orem in the cup semifinal. Herriman finished series runners up ahead of United by just 4 series points.

Wasatch High School finally took home some silverware on Saturday when they gave a solid on field performance against a young and growing TC Fusion side in the Varsity B Cup Final. Wasatch HS secured their first tournament cup with a 50 – 7 win over TC Fusion. Wasatch HS is an athletic new team that is growing in stature managing to place as high is 6th in Leg 3.

Herriman White picked up vital points by securing a Varsity Division quarter final spot in Leg 4. Although they lost the quarter final to Wasatch of Murray (28 – 0), Herriman White picked up enough series points to secure the Varsity B Series Championship. TC Fusion were the Varsity B Series runners-up.

The Utah Youth Rugby High School Fall 7s Series was held over four tournaments on September 19, September 26, October 24 and October 31. Each tournament comprised seeded pool play matches followed by play offs with teams competing for series points. Tournament cup wins secured teams the maximum number of series points available for the tournament. The lower teams finished in each tournament, the fewer the number of series points earned. Teams tied with series points were separated by the teams’ aggregate points’ difference.
