Utah's governing youth rugby organization transitions its executive leadership

Salt Lake City, UT—Utah Youth Rugby (UYR) recently announced the election of the organization’s new Board of Directors along with a change in its executive leadership.

The UYR member clubs recently realigned the governing Board of Directors electing a total of eleven board members. The UYR Board of Directors is tasked with overseeing rugby’s growth at the high school and youth level in the state of Utah.

The UYR Board also appointed Ken Rivera, formerly affiliated with the national powerhouse Snow Canyon High School Rugby Club, as the Chariman of the Board. Along with setting the new board in place the UYR will see a new executive leadership for the first time in five years.

The newly-elected board would like to sincerely thank past president Michael Cressler for his five years of dedicated service to build the UYR into one of the nation’s top State-Based-Rugby-Organizations (SBRO).

“Mike has done an outstanding job building rugby here in Utah,” said UYR Chairman Ken Rivera, “The growing state of the game here in Utah owes itself to Mike and his passionate leadership. We thank him and wish him well.”

Cressler will serve as UYR Emeritus President for the rest of 2015 while the new Executive Team is mentored and the transition of UYR leadership is managed.

The new UYR executive leadership team will be led by President Owen Power, who has most recently served as the VP of the UYR under the past executive team. Power, who’s an active member of the Alpine-based United Rugby Club, will assume leadership of the UYR effectively immediately under the purview of the UYR Board of Directors.

Other positions within the UYR executive team are yet to be named and will be appointed by the UYR Board of Directros in consultation with Power in the coming days. A series of candidates for each role are currently being considered.

“I’m very excited about helping the UYR grow,” said new President Owen Power, “We have a solid foundation built here in Utah and there are a lot of possibilities ahead for the growth of the game.”
