Fall 7s ends with a bang in St George

St George 7s wraps up the Fall 7s series in a big way

The Fall 7s series of Utah Youth Rugby ended with some incredible competition, incredible games and a final tournament where, for the boys, the outcome was not already decided.  The St George 7s was the final stop of the series that has seen the tournament championship games decided by 7 points or less, often with come from behind victories and the St George 7s was not going to disappoint.

In the Varsity Girls division., the Orem Stallions had dominated the field and continued to do so with some of the best rugby seen in the girls sport in a long time. Most of the coaches agreed that they would even give some of the boys a run had the chance occurred. In St George they continued their streak and ended the Season 21-0 securing the lead and title for the series. The real battle was for second place. United Girls Rugby and The Vipers Rugby Club had been battling it out with Snow Canyon Girls all year long and in the End, despite having lost to the Vipers in St George, they pulled out a series second place edging out the Vipers by 4 series point, the difference between one position in the series.

For the boys, the Series Cup was going to be a duel between Herriman and Summit Academy. Both teams had enough points to secure the title but with Herriman in the series lead, it would take some incredible rugby to pull it off. At the half Summit had a 2 point lead over Herriman but it would prove to not be enough, with both sides suffering the effects of a long 7s series with injuries on both sides , the teams fought back to a 21-14 lead by Herriman with seconds left on the clock. Summit mounted a ferocious comeback putting a try up but missing the conversion to put the final score 21-19 in favor of Herriman who not only won the St George 7s tournament but also the Fall 7s series title.

Congrats to all teams for making such a successful series and for having the great attitude and conduct becoming ladies and gentlemen of the sport!
