Second stop on the Fall 7s series a great time

Salt Lake City 7s a perfect day

The weather was perfect for a day in the park playing rugby and the teams came out to show how 7s is meant to be played when not in a rain storm. Summit Academy HS found themselves at top of pool A after initial pool play with Box Elder and Herriman at the top of their respective pools as well. Playoff seeding put these three into the the top 3 slots but with the quality of players in the state, it could be anyone's game today.

For the Girls, Orem continued to dominate in a round robin tourney showing exceptional skills and speed. They seem to be the ones to beat but there are definitely teams out there who could take that title from them.

By the time the tourney was over, Herriman had won in a nail biter over Summit Academy HS after being down 12-10 at the half. Herriman secured victory 24-17 with a try with no time left on the clock by a handling error by Summit in the defending 22.

Neither team can sit back, however, because the unexpected dark horse in the series is Box Elder. After taking 6th in the Brigham City 7s, they topped not only their own pool but managed to put several very good teams on the back foot to take third in the tourney, including coming close to dethroning Herriman.

The next stop on the Series in 18 Oct in Alpine. The fields will be at both Burgess Park and the adjacent Timberline Middle School. Come out to watch some incredible rugby from the boys and girls as we continue the Rugby Utah Fall 7s Series.
